The director of global engagement serves as the centerpiece of and conduit for international student exchange on LaGrange’s campus, and facilitates LaGrange College study away in other countries. Reporting to the VPAA, responsibilities include:
- Partnering with the VPAA and academic departments to develop and implement strategies to increase the international travel of students
- Partnering with faculty and staff to identify appropriate travel sites for their courses and to choose providers in the best position to work with the college
- Working with faculty and staff on study away proposal preparation
- Assisting with faculty-led study away process for spring and fall travel courses to include developing and managing course budget and provide preliminary approval of items for VPAA
- Assisting students and faculty with the study away application process.
- Advising students in the process of applying for an international program, and coordinate with necessary departments to ensure accuracy of information given to students, e.g., tuition, fees, and academic advising.
- Advising students about the Gilman and Boren Scholarship programs
- Serving as Principle Designated School Official to campus and Student and Exchange Visitors Program
- Keeping current on all F-1 immigration rules and regulations by attending webinars, conferences, and special briefings and training sessions held by professional international education and government organizations.
- Processing school’s I-17 updates in SEVIS and school recertification every two years
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of related experience; or, the equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education as approved by Human Resources. Prior administrative experience in a college or university is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to learn and understand ever-changing complex federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to foreign nationals and effectively communicate to others
- Ability to educate stakeholders regarding the value of international travel
- Ability to build relationships in order to promote international travel
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
