Job Description

This role will focus on:

As the Customs Compliance Manager you will ensure compliance with international trade law and customs regulations importing into the US from the UK and EU. Your expertise in customs compliance will drive the development of a robust trade compliance framework to mitigate risk and enable seamless cross-border trade for our North America based operations. You will work closely with the Operations team and freight forwarders to adapt and align to new requirements.   

What you’ll be doing

  • Strategic Trade Compliance and Communications: Lead and develop trade strategy for the North American organization and communicate effectively with senior leadership and cross functional teams.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all imports and exports comply with relevant custom laws and international trade agreements, and all duties are paid accurately and timely. Stay informed of all regulatory changes and proactively implementing measures to adhere to new regulation.
  • Classification, Valuation & Country of Origin: Oversee the accurate classification of goods using Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes and highly developed understanding of customs valuation regulations including related party transactions, working closely with the Engineering team, Suppliers and freight forwarders.
  • Documentation Management: Develop, implement, and monitor customs compliance policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to U.S. and international regulations including customs valuation, origin determination, trade agreements and HTS.
  • Customs Broker Management: Partner with freight forwarders to ensure accurate clearance of imports and exports, audit them and holds accountable to KPIs to create best practice and performance.
  • Auditing and Risk Management:Lead internal audits related to customs classification, identifies compliance risks, supports customs inquiries and investigations, and implements corrective actions to mitigate future risks.
  • Duty Mitigation Strategies: Drives cost-saving initiatives such as duty drawback, PMS, FTA, Chapter 98 and other Duty
  • Preference Programs, contributing to overall customs-related financial productivity.

Who you’ll be working with

  • Operations Team: Working closely with Logistics and Operations Managers
  • Freight Forwarders: Partnering with all of our freight forwarders to ensure compliance and appropriate action.
  • Engineering: Capitalizing on technical expertise to ensure correct HTS product classification.
  • Finance: Adhering to all internal controls and providing accurate reporting for financial analysis.
  • External regulatory bodies: Ensuring adherence to all CBP regulations.

This is what you’ll need to be successful in this role

  • Trade and Customs Expertise: 5+ years' experience. Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) or relevant years of experience UK/EU importing experience preferred.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Knowledge of Customs and Trade Regulatory and Compliance topics.
  • HTS Classification Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of HTS classification, customs regulations, and trade compliance laws
  • Ability to take the lead: A proactive approach to guiding the team in complex trade and customs compliance matters
  • Effective Communication: Ability to communicate at multiple levels across various stakeholders, both internal and external to achieve the objectives.
  • Attention to detail: Critical for accurate filings in a fast paced environment
  • Analytical Skills: Utilize strong analytical skills to interpret data to avoid errors and ensure compliance.

 

Physical Demands

· Mobility: This is a remote position that primarily requires sitting at a desk or computer workstation for extended periods, with occasional need to stand or move around to maintain health and well-being. Ability to regularly operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
· Vision and Hearing: Ability to use a computer and read documents. Effective communication skills to interact with colleagues and clients through video conferencing tools.
· Dexterity: Basic hand dexterity for typing and using computer peripherals
